Located on the Mezzanine level of The Driskill, The Maximilian Room functioned as a Gentlemen’s Parlor from 1886-1915, when the hotel purchased eight Austrian gold-leafed mirrors from an antique shop in San Antonio, Texas and converted the room into a meeting space.

Each mirror is adorned with the bust of the beautiful Empress Carlotta, wife of Emperor Maximilian, an Austrian man commissioned by Napoleon III to reign over Mexico. The mirrors graced the walls of the couple's palace in Chapultepec until the violence was inescapable and the Emperor was eventually overthrown.

The Empress Carlotta mirrors are the perfect backdrop for elegant weddings and events in Austin, with a European opulance uncommonly seen in the United States.

Nowadays, The Empress Carlotta mirrors offer the perfect backdrop for elegant weddings and events in Austin, and we are so proud to have them!
