The Driskill Unveils New $39 Local Farm-to-Table Three Course Menu

AUSTIN, Texas - March 10, 2009 - Jonathan Gelman, executive chef at The Driskill Hotel, today unveiled new spring menus for both The Driskill Grill and 1886 Café & Bakery featuring a $39 Local Farm-to-Table three-course menu. Signature items at The Driskill Grill feature seasonal selections from local farms presented in an elegant atmosphere whereas 1886 Café & Bakery infuses local flavors into home-style foods. Both restaurants re-evaluated pricing to provide guests with more value-conscious menu choices.

"We made our menus more affordable but they are still creative with selection that have a broad appeal to our average customer," said Chef Gelman. "We have a renewed focus on using local products, when possible, which allows us to get more creative with the food itself and we are supporting our local farmers and partners this way as well. This allows us to pass a savings of up to 25 percent along to our guests, depending on the menu items selected."

Repeatedly ranked the number one restaurant in Austin, the four-diamond Driskill Grill features innovative and impeccably prepared fare in an elegant setting. The award-winning Driskill Grill is offering a special $39, three-course Local Farm-to-Table Menu featuring a choice of the Texas Chop Salad or Roasted Beet Salad, the Dry Aged Prime Rib-Eye or Cast Iron Grouper and for dessert Chocolate-Raspberry Gateau or Apple Tart. This $39 per person menu can be enhanced with a Sommelier's wine pairing for $62 per person.

The new spring menu at The Driskill Grill features first course items such as the Beef Carpaccio and Roasted Beet Salad. Second course items include Pan Seared Diver Scallop, Honey and Butter Roasted Forestiere Mushroom, Bandera Roasted Quail and Crispy Braised Pork Belly.

For main course selections guests can choose from "Seared, Smoked & Sautéed" items, "Off the Grill" and vegetarian dishes. Signature items include Cherry Wood Smoked Poussin with truffled potatoes, sautéed radish, local chard and rosemary demi or the Duck "Three Ways" presented as a cinnamon breast, confit ravioli and seared foie gras. Other main course delicacies are the Grilled Opah with spaghetti squash, Animal Farm rainbow carrots, lemon and capers, as well as the Chipotle Buttermilk Wild Board Chops with braised fennel, roasted fingerlings and raspberry garlic sauce.

The menu also offers a variety of artisanal cheeses to compliment any course. Dessert favorites include the Chocolate Crunch Bar with malted milk shake and candied hazelnuts and the Warm Chocolate Croissant Pudding with Irish car bomb gelato.

In addition to the special three-course menu, The Driskill Grill features a Chef's Five Course and a Chef's Nine Course Tasting Menu. These gastronomic experiences begin at $65 per person for the five course tasting and $105 per person with Sommelier's wine parings. The nine course tasting is $110 per person or $198 with Sommelier's wine pairings.

In contrast to The Driskill Grill's elegance and flare is 1886 Café & Bakery, which is well-know as "Austin's Original Socializing Parlor" which features contemporary, Southern dining for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night meals. The spring menu at 1886 features home-style favorites such as Capital Corned Beef Hash with Two Farm Fresh Eggs of choice, Triple Decker Lobster Club with Citrus Vinaigrette and a Stuffed Portobello Mushroom for vegetarians. Chef de Cuisine Jason Seidel from 1886 also makes homemade meatloaf from scratch with traditional mushroom gravy and mashed potatoes.  The Café also features a signature bakery and pastry shop where the creations from Executive Pastry Chef Tony Sansalone range from homemade breads and breakfast bakeries to custom pies and cakes and an ever-changing array of desserts which are all available to grab and go.
